For good

I am always amazed how much music touches my soul. I will be talking to someone and all of a sudden the words of a song will come into my mind. This happened to me last night. I got a call from an old friend (well, she's not old) I've just known her for a million years. Margo lived on the street next to mine when we lived on Nellis Air Force base wayyyy back in 1991. She had three boys who were similar ages to my kids and we became friends. She is one of those people that appears out of no where when you need them most. I remember many late night shopping trips to Walmart (the only store that was open 24 hours). Play dates with the kids and many all night stamping extravaganzas. Those were fun times back then and we made some good memories. Well, Margo moved away and we've been in and out of touch over the years. She has happened back into my life...for a reason. Tonight she had some great advice for me. She reminded me that I am not in charge of this journey called life. I keep trying to be in control  because I am a control freak. I worry too much and I always try to live in the past or the future. After talking to Margo, I realize I need to live in the moment. It's been a rough week, but today is Thanksgiving and I have much to be thankful for. Most of all for my family and good friends both near and far. You have changed my life for the better.  If you are reading this, have a Happy Thanksgiving and don't forget to hold your loved ones a little tighter this year. One of my favorite songs is from the musical WICKED.  This is my theme song today.

For Good

(Elphaba):
Im limited
Just look at me - Im limited
And just look at you
You can do all I couldn't do, Glinda
So now it's up to you
For both of us - now it's up to you...

(Glinda):
I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you...

Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good

(Elphaba):
It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend...

Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
In a distant wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you

(Glinda):
Because I knew you

(Both):
I have been changed for good

(Elphaba):
And just to clear the air
I ask forgiveness
For the things I've done you blame me for

(Glinda):
But then, I guess we know
There's blame to share

(Both):
And none of it seems to matter anymore

(Glinda):
Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood

(Elphaba):
Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a bird in the wood

(Both):
Who can say if I've been
Changed for the better?
I do believe I have been
Changed for the better

(Glinda):
And because I knew you...

(Elphaba):
Because I knew you...

(Both):
Because I knew you...
I have been changed for good...

  1. Laura,
I'm so glad I was able to help you. I <3 you and will always be here for you. You are a strong, amazing, fantaboulus woman!! You can do this.

Now, can we go back to those days at Nellis, when the kids were small, they were tucked in their beds by us every night and they thought we knew it all? LOL

  2. I wish we could go back to those good ol' days. Oh the joys of my kids thinking I knew everything. That didn't last near long enough.
