Ty's homecoming

We have had plans scheduled for the July 4th weekend for months. Russell's family scheduled their reunion in Mt. Pleasant, Utah and we were also invited to my dad's brother Monty's family reunion in Utah County. We had made plans to do BOTH this weekend (this included Russ going with his family while I visited my brother Lonnie on Saturday, Lagoon on July 4th, Provo's Freedom Day Parade on July 5th, add a family BBQ thrown in too). Russ surprised us all and managed to get Friday off at the last minute so the car was packed and ready to go by 8:00 am that morning.

Russ picked up Ty from the airport a little after noon. Everyone was excited and anxious to get on the road. Ty surprised us all when he announced he didn't want to go into Utah with any of us. He begged us to stay home and spend time together as a family. Since he's been gone for 7 months, we understood his desire to catch-up with our life and maybe see some friends who were home from college too. However, since this would be our only family trip this summer...the rest of us were devastated! We had been planning this trip and weekend for months. Right away Ty started calling friends and making plans to do something that night (he wanted us to stay home but he also wanted to see his friends too).

It took us 2 hours to decide that since Torri, Bryce and Russ had all taken off work to go out-of-town, we decided to compromise. We would drive to St. George on Friday (since Ty would be with his friends that night anyway), use the tickets Torri had given us to see Tuacahn's "Tarzan," spend the night and watch the parade on Saturday morning. This way we could all enjoy some 4th of July festivities and still make everyone happy. It wasn't the weekend we had planned but it would still seem like a get-away for the rest of us. It sounded like a good plan...
