Dental Woes

I HATE DENTISTS and I HATE GOING TO THE DENTIST!  I have one of those crazy stories about being a kid and having to go to the dentist all the time.  I think this has something to do with my fear and the fact that I am a complete nervous wreck when I need to have dental work done.  I also have trust issues because I have had previous Dentists do bad work & lie to me about needing more work done than what I really need.  Oh, and have I mentioned that drill sound? Yup, that is what nightmares are made of.  Anyway, back when I was going through nursing school one of my old fillings fell out and took 1/4 of my molar with it.  Well, since it never gave me pain...I was in NO hurry to fix it.  I was also told it would need a root canal (I've never had one of those but the word CANAL in my mouth sounded terrifying).  I have to admit that I have stressed about this apt. for years/months/weeks and days.  Let me just add here that my new Dentist is an incredible guy and is super nice and gentle.  This still didn't make it any easier for me to sit in his torture chair though!  I would rather do anything other than go to the Dentist!!!  Back to yesterday...Dr. I told me to take 2 magic pills 30 minutes before my apt.  Then he promised he would give me nitrous oxide as soon as I sat down.  Sure as he said, he took great care of me and after all that worry and stress, I didn't need a root canal after-all!  He did find another tooth that was cracked too (and showed me with his camera so I believed him).  Now I will end up with 2 crowns instead of 1...however, I think the bad part is over!  The happy pills and Nitrous oxide were fabulous...the shots were painful and made me cry but my cousin Jan brought me a blanket and I started watching a movie and then magically 2 hours later, I woke up and it was over!  Nurses make the worst patients!
