I finally went to see my doctor today. It was really an annual check-up (prescription refill day). However, she listened to my lungs and decided that I needed a breathing treatment.
Bad idea!
I was into the breathing treatment 2 minutes when I started coughing. After the treatment, the coughing kept getting worse and I was sure I would cough up a lung.
While I was waiting for my blood to be drawn the doctor heard me coughing and came back into the room. She gave me some liquid steroids (something I am DEAD-set against). However, at this point I decided that maybe I was going to DIE anyway so I guess the steroids couldn't hurt. When that didn't help the doctor brought in some Singulair chewable...nope, that didn't help either. Then, she brought in an allergy pill. Not sure if that was supposed to help immediately or in 45 minutes. However, nothing would help my coughing. Needless to say, I left with 5 prescriptions and 3 samples of different medicine. I guess she figures my cough will eventually stop or I will sleep through it with the combination of all the drugs she gave me.
I hate being sick in the summer!
Okay, I know you're a nurse so you know that if you got a breathing treatment (good idea!) it opened up your bronchials enough to get the junk out and that's what triggered the coughing - your lungs could finally get all the crap out! Gees, girl! Scary! I don't mess with lungs - probably because I have three sibs with CF and I got really bad pneumonia/bronchitis once and ended up with chronic bronchitis and 75 year old lady lungs - when I was 35.

I know, I know...but I really hate induced coughing. I almost wet my pants. haha TMI I know...but I really hated that coughing spell she put me in. I didn't calm down for several hours. Then I took the yummy (miracle worker) cough medicine and slept like a baby because I it is holding all the crap still in my lungs so I can't cough.
