Here is the story about my
pirate eye. I woke up Monday morning December 20, with a strange red mark on the eye-lid of my left eye. I didn't think much about it but it was kind of bugging me. That day I also noticed there was a painful, pea size lump next to my ear on the left side. Tuesday, the lump is
getting bigger now the size of a golf ball and my eyelid is starting to swell shut.
The following day (Wed. Dec 22, this is what I look like). Notice the huge swelling in the corner of my left eye? Russ
dragged me kicking and screaming because it it three days before Christmas and I have a million things to do made me go to quick care and they told me I had an eye infection
DUH! They gave me a shot of Rocephin and sent me home with TWO prescriptions for antibiotics to be taken for
10 days. They also told me to come back the next day to be checked by a different doctor because the doctor checking me was worried about it spreading to my brain.
The following day my face is starting to swell up even BIGGER and I can hardly open my left eye. Russ took me back to quick care and the Doctor
was an idiot told me to give the antibiotics time to work.
HELLO people...they
AREN'T WORKING! How much time do we need? The doctor treated me like a toddler (I had to pull the responsible nurse card but that didn't work either). He told me NOT to wear make-up on that eye and said if it got worse than to go to the ER and get IV antibiotics on Christmas eve. (I actually paid him money to tell me this)! I leave quick-care crying out my good eye because my left one is plugged!

Here is the lovely picture of my face swelling (you can see the red streaks down my left cheek) and now I can barely open my eye. Trust me...it pains me to post this picture as much as it does you to look at it.
Even though the nurse inside of me thinks I probably needed IV antibiotics, think of it from my perspective. I had 14 people staying at my house over Christmas. Plus, I am a mom and Christmas eve is kind of a BIG deal. There was NO WAY I was going to spend Christmas eve day in the hospital getting IV antibiotics and risk the chance of being admitted into the hospital with cellulitis. So, I opted to "wait it out." My eye did get worse. You will see more pictures from Christmas eve later. Just take my word for it. IT GOT WORSE! Wyatt bought me a pirate patch for my eye because he thought he was funny so that I could wear it out shopping. I would have worn it if it would have made my head stop pounding. |
Needless to say...I never went to the hospital and the infection lasted for 8 DAYS and I thought my head would explode from the pressure. Then all of a sudden POOF! It was gone. I have a nasty scar where the red mark was...but my eye finally looks normal again.
